Hello to all of you who are visiting this blog for the first time.  My name is Sarah Knights and I’m a photographer, based in Malmesbury, Wiltshire.  I’ve lived there since 1985 so I can consider myself a local now!  We had a three year gap in our time there due to my husband being posted to Cyprus in 1991.  So, those of you who have seen some of my landscapes will now understand why I have quite a few images of Cyprus.  We are lucky enough to have a house out there in the village of Pissouri, so I am often going back.

In fact, my passion for photography probably started when we were living in Akrotiri in the nineties.  I have always loved taking photographs but somehow Cyprus inspired me to take up the camera properly and while I was there, I started a small portrait business in our married quarter.  When I look back, I realise that my obsession for taking pictures of our children far outweighed the normal mother love photos – there are literally thousands of pictures of our children growing up, much to their amusement and sometimes embarrassment.  I didn’t realise at the time what I was doing – practising on them.  They do now realise of course, and get rather bored when the camera comes out and I say, ‘could you just go over there and face that way….’ etc etc   I’m sure other children of photographers will know how they feel!

My other career was as a teacher, first as a secondary teacher of English and then as an English as a foreign language business trainer.  But like so many others, the photography was always burning a hole inside me and in the end, I gave up teaching and started my business properly.  I had of course been taking pictures continually but at last, I was able to do it all the time.  I was also very lucky to have a studio attached to our house – it had been the children’s snooker and table tennis place, then a hangout for teenage parties, then an office for my husband and then…mine!

So that’s how it’s all started and how I’m sure it will continue til I’m too decrepit to hold a camera!

Please do get in touch, I’d love to hear from you.

Sarah
